Making a Successful Career Transition

Making a Successful Career Transition

Changing careers can be as daunting as it is exciting. Whether driven by a quest for passion, better opportunities, or a necessary pivot due to industry changes, transitioning careers is a significant step. It was a big shift to selling a business that I thought I would work in for the rest of my life. Here is how I went from being in the Family Ice Business, to doing what I am today.

Entrepreneurship was ingrained in me since the day I was born. In 1986 my father Randy S. Adams started Adams’ Ice Service, a business that delivers packaged Ice to gas stations, bars, retail outlets, events, and more. He started the business from the ground up. In 1989 I was born and I delivered Ice with my father as long as I could remember. I would go on routes with him and sling ice down from the refrigerated truck. I remember back in the day when I got paid $5 per hour to work with my dad. My summers working in the Ice Business eventually added up to enough money for me to buy my first piece of property at 16 years old.

As a kid when asked to draw a picture of what I wanted to be when I grew up, I always drew a picture of my dad and I standing in front of an Ice Truck. I knew as a child I wanted to be an Ice Man when I grew up. Together we grew the business and sold Ice In Iowa, Wisconsin, and parts of Minnesota. In 2014 I purchased the Ice Business from my father. The Ice Business was a part of me while starting other companies and becoming the Entrepreneur I am today. It will always be a part of me in some way or another. On Monday February 25th 2019 I sold it.
