Making it sound complex to make it sound important
My dad always says that mankind will eventually come full circle. Actually, in many ways we already are. We are rediscovering what our ancestors ate and discovering age old remedies that are being repackaged and sold back to us at a premium. In other words, we have complicated lives to such an extent that the only way out is to peel off the layers and go back to the basics.
After paying the price for complexity, we are more than willing to pay an extra price for simplicity.
How many long winded presentations/meetings/explanations have you sat through and came out thinking 'that was such a long-winded way of saying something simple'? Reinventing the wheel needlessly, spending excessive time on small tasks, waking up at the 11th hour, all of these are just ploys to complicate and make things seem bigger than they are.
There are only a few things that are truly complex in the world. Most other things are made complex because a lot of people want to appear and sound more important or intelligent than they actually are.
