Making social media a more positive and productive space.
Top tips from Stacey, Head of J'adore Reach
Within my role at J’adore Models, a large portion of my day is using social media to consume fresh info on social activations, data diving on our existing and prospective models and gaining awareness of current events, trends and attitudes to feed back to our boards.
It's become impossible for a role like mine, Head of our social boards J’adore Reach, to function without keeping my finger constantly on the virtual pulse. Personally, I thrive off it and always find inspo each day which feeds straight back into the full team and supports us all driving forward. That being said, I can absolutely understand how this can be overwhelming for people within the fashion and beauty (or any!) industry.
I have always set myself guidelines to ensure I can a) switch off, b) consume fresh inspo c) not fall into the trap of comparing myself to every beautiful person in the world, their lives, homes, pets, travels and nights out.
I saw the value in sharing these tips with our models and particularly, new signings new to the industry to encourage them on the right path from the start of their career:
- Follow who and what inspires you: Think artists, other models, friends that have their own businesses, who do you look up to in your industry?, motivational speakers, cool graphic designers, producers, directors…the list is endless!
- Connect with everyone you meet on a job: They will share their work, and their connections and you can show your appreciation for their time and skill.
- Unfollow: This is vital! If something isn't inspiring you, or a page is making you feel negatively about your looks or life then quite simply unfollow it! Remember YOU have control over the media you consume - nobody is forcing you to follow anything you don't want to.
- Time limits: Plan and limit your time spent online if you feel overwhelmed, reduce time before you go to sleep and aim to not look at your phone until after your morning shower! The news, those likes and follows and celeb updates really can all wait until you’re ready.
- Keep educated: Social media is an escape from the real world, but that’s not to say there’s no value in keeping up to date with industry news, so don't shy away from keeping your head in the game. If we spend time on our phones - we might as well learn too!
