Making Schools Safer...

Visitor management is a crucial element in the multi-layer approach to school safety. As part of that function there are times when people arriving at your front office should not be allowed on campus, or to interact with students or staff. There's a basic expectation, for security purposes, that visitors are checked against some level of state or national database to ensure they aren't a registered offender. But what if there are other reasons to limit access?

In those cases, when you need to restrict who can and cannot come into your facility, your visitor management system should have the ability to create and manage a list of those individuals who should be 'blocked'. Sometimes you know these people because they have visited one of your campuses before. Sometimes you know them from family-related legal proceeding that have been filed with your central office, and sometimes they are known to your security department from previous encounters.

You visitor management system should help manage that Name Block List and determine whether a person should be blocked from one school, all schools or system-wide. It should provide an easy way to add someone to the list; an easy way to remove someone from the list; and an easy way to synchronize your Name Block List with internal systems, where some parents/guardians and others are flagged.

The following post shows a perfect example of why having a visitor management system that accommodates a Name Block List function is crucial.
