Making a Positive Impact in the Middle of Multiple Disasters

After months of planning, organizing, marketing and coordinating a hundred little details, Kellogg & Kimsey, Inc. pulled off their first Sporting Clay's Charity Tournament last week! The event took place at a fantastic venue at Knights Trail Park under the guidance of the Sarasota Trap-Skeet & Clay's team.

Every year for the past 22 years, Kellogg & Kimsey, Inc. have organized a golfing event to raise money for local charities and/or businesses that help the Sarasota community. At the beginning of the year, President, Phil Kellogg suggested "Changing up our annual golf tournament for something different ...like a Sporting Clay's tournament". My first thought was, "I know nothing about shooting clay's, where do I start?"

After meeting with Don Weston with the Sarasota Trap-Skeet & Clay's, a tour of the site and a million questions later, I felt pretty confident we could make this happen. We decided to work this year with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota County and donate our proceeds from the event for all the great work they do. We began reaching out to our sub-consultants, owners, affiliates, friends and families and asked for their support as sponsors and/or players. Everything was coming together pretty nicely...

Then Hurricane Harvey hit Texas and we watched in shock at the astronomical damage. Then Hurricane Irma terrorized the Caribbean and Key West and left everyone in Florida in panic mode to stay or go. Then Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico and we watched in despair at the aftermath.

I've heard of the 100-year storm... but three in a month? Come on Mother Nature!

With so much going on, we have been so fortunate here in Sarasota and we want to thank everyone who has helped us out with this event. People who came thru with sponsorships at the last minute despite having to take care of their own businesses and homes. The amazing companies who rallied together to make up teams all for a good cause. What a positive impact you have made when things were pretty crazy around here!

  • Don, Ashley, Steve and the guys out at Sarasota Trap-Skeet & Clay's - Thank you for all your hard work getting everything setup the day before and making the event a smooth and disaster free day!
