If you love having your meal on the go or simply want an easier way to ditch doing the dishes, choosing disposable palm leaf plates can be a great option. Made from naturally fallen Areca palm leaves, palm leaf products like plates and bowls are here to make your meals planet-safe and convenient.
However, if you are wondering how these plates are made, you are in just the right spot. Read on to explore exactly how we make our palm leaf plates and how we use greener ways to manufacture these plates while keeping our impact to the minimum.
Behind The Scenes of Palm Leaf Plate Manufacturing
The process of making Areca leaf plates usually starts by sourcing the main material- leaves. Rather than plucking live leaves, we use only naturally fallen palm leaves to make our plates and bowls. With that in mind, here's what the process of making palm leaf plates look like:
Harvesting Palm Leaves
The manufacturing process starts with sourcing our prime material- the laves. Harvested in a sustainable way, we only use naturally fallen Areca palm leaves to ensure no harm to living trees. In addition to helping us reduce deforestation, this process also helps upcycle the leaves that would otherwise be discarded or burnt.
The harvesting process can sometimes be challenging, as the focus is always on harvesting the leaves that are mature and healthy. These leaves are mostly found in tropical regions of Asia, the Pacific, and East Africa. And, because the natural shedding happens throughout the year, palm leaf plates are simply more sustainable than single-use paper or plastic plates. The leaves are collected by local farmers, who ensure that none of the leaves are damaged. This helps ensure a good quality. The harvested leaves are, then, sent to the processing units.

Cleaning the Leaves
Once the leaves enter the processing units, they are sent to be thoroughly cleaned to get rid of any germs, debris, or mud. The leaves are, then, categorized on the basis of their shape, size, and quality. Any damaged leaves are discarded.
Processing the Leaves
The next step usually involves soaking the leaves in water to make them soft. Once the leaves are soft enough to be placed in the molds, the leaves are pressed and shaped into the desired shape under a high-pressure heating mechanism.
The molds are available in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, ranging from small to large and plates to bowls. After the leaves have taken the right shape under the molds, they are left to dry to eradicate any moisture. Each plate features the leaf's unique pattern and design, telling a story of its own. With no palm leaf plates alike, they are designed to match our aesthetic while being safe for the planet at the same time.
Quality Checks
Once the palm leaf plates are all dried up, they are sent for trimming and finishing. The edges are usually trimmed to avoid anything sharp. Plus, every plate is inspected carefully, ensuring that only the best quality reaches your table.
Summing It Up
And, that's exactly how our palm leaf products, like plates and bowls, are made. Made from just plants, these plates are certified compostable, toxin-free, and food-safe. Our palm plates are also heat-resistant, and just perfect to handle freezing cold and pipping hot meals without getting saggy or mushy.?
