Making Offers You Can't Refuse: Timeless Business Strategies from The Godfather Saga
MANY years ago I had a vague idea about "business lessons from the Godfather" .. you know, the classic Brando, De Niro, Pacino mafia movie...
If you have never sat and watched them .. you really MUST (1 and 2 anyway, we don't talk about 3!)
Anyway .. with a little time on my hands this afternoon, I thought I'd commit my thoughts to an article .. and here it is .. management lessons from a gangster film!
1. ”A friend should always underestimate your virtues and an enemy overestimate your faults.” Don Vito Corleone
In business, it's crucial to cultivate strong relationships and networks. By creating a support system of friends and allies, you can gain access to resources, advice, and opportunities that would be otherwise unavailable. Be sure to value your connections and maintain these relationships.
2. "It's not personal, Sonny. It's strictly business.” Michael Corleone?
It's essential to maintain professionalism and separate personal feelings from business decisions. Allowing emotions to cloud your judgment can lead to irrational decisions that negatively impact your business.
3. "Times have changed. It's not like the Old Days when we could do anything we want.” Peter Clemenza

The business world is constantly evolving, and successful managers and leaders must be willing to adapt and grow with it. Embrace change and remain flexible in your approach to ensure your approach remains relevant and competitive.
4. "A man* who doesn't spend time with his family can never be a real man.”?Don Vito Corleone?
It's essential to maintain a healthy balance between work and personal life. Fostering strong relationships with family and loved ones can serve as a support system and provide perspective during challenging times. By prioritising work-life balance, business leaders can ensure their own well-being and set a positive example for their team.
5. "Never let anyone know what you are thinking.” Don Vito Corleone?
Successful leaders must be decisive and assertive in their decision-making. While it's essential to gather information and consider multiple perspectives, ultimately, you must be confident in your choices and willing to stand by them. By demonstrating strong leadership, you will inspire trust and loyalty in your team.

*That is as written in the book and later movie ... take it as anyone who works needs to build time in for home and family.
