Making Moves in May

Making Moves in May

Wow, this month flew by in a blink of an eye just like the The Flash. Who watched the series finally btw... I thought it was rather anticlimactic and I'm not sure I actually enjoyed the ending. Anywho!

???? I officially started a new job at the beginning of the month and am instructing a FinTech Bootcamp with edX. The experience has been more than I could ever have imagined with all the things I am learning about academia, my students, and myself. I have always wanted to be a teacher and throughout my years of experience as a data professional I have seen a lot of parallels and overlap of skills between the two, it only made sense for this transition. In fact, over the past few months I have been helping others transition from teaching into the data field and I am so happy to have such a strong community to share and learn from on this journey.

While I am settling into this new role, I needed to re-focus the current strategy of nerdnourishment . The reason why I created nerdnourishment in the first place was because I love learning and strongly believe in the need to continuously learn, especially in the field of data. Thus, nerdnourishment is a place where I share resources for others in the data field, or those looking to enter the data field, to learn all about data. I am still working on creating content through my podcast episodes and other socials but I will be cutting back on my event reviews and adding more reviews for learning resources.

In fact, I learned about a new learning resource, wrote a review, AND added a new link to our Data Learning Resources page!

If you are even more curious about nerdnourishment and what we do, I even created a Media Kit to formally share my services on my website.

?? Side note / fun fact: my event reviews started out by accident actually. I was already attending events, loved to write about my experiences, and was getting some great feedback. However, the topics of some of the events I started going to were a little off-brand IMO. Not in a bad way, just not topics I would usually share so it felt different. I think I came to this realization because it is mid-year and I am reviewing my goals, making sure I am still on track, and sometimes people need to pivot. ??

?? Data Security

The main takeaway is that each and every person is responsible for keeping the data in their company secure, making this a great topic to learn about!

I actually posted this review the last day of last month here, but wanted to bring it back to the top of the pile because it is a good segue into my next review ????

I had the opportunity to partner with a new learning resource company I learned about late last month, Fanatical. They are considered a leading global gaming and digital entertainment platform, but they are so much more!

They also provide bundles covering technology and programming, comics, graphic novels and eLearning books from publishers such as Packt ??

It is a perfect mix of education AND entertainment (a.k.a. 'edutainment'), which is exactly what nerdnourishment is all about! ??

I took the course 'The Beginners 2023 Cyber Security Awareness Training Course' and found a ton of value to those new to the cybersecurity field as well as those wanting to revisit the topic in the current 2023 landscape. Check out the review on my blog here.
