Making the Most of Challenges
In the continuous improvement field, there's this common saying that might sound a bit weird: "Enjoy your problems."
?
Our jobs involve diving into a company's issues, finding out what's not working, and helping them fix it. Instead of looking at problems like roadblocks, we're encouraged when we see them as chances to make things better.? Every glitch in the system? It's an opportunity to smooth things out and improve how things work.? PDCA (Plan, Do, Check, Act) in action.
?
When we say, "Enjoy your problems," we mean to completely immerse yourself in the investigation.? Find out how your process really works.? It's about the thrill of the hunt while searching for the root cause.? Problems aren't headaches; they're signposts showing us where we can do things more effectively - and if we do it right it can be very rewarding (and fun!).? By fixing the issues people have, we show respect to the team.? They show respect by rewarding us with more opportunities to flex our skillsets.
?
Enjoying our problems doesn't mean loving the chaos. It's about finding satisfaction in straightening out the knots and helping the team converting defeats into wins.? Turning chaos into consistency.? Challenging the organization to get better each day.
?
So, the next time you're knee-deep in a problem at work, maybe take a second to appreciate it. Afterall, if there were no problems, we'd all be irrelevant.? Every opportunity is a chance to put our lean hats on and shake things up for the better. For each of us problems aren't nuisances; they're the stuff we use to build up something great. Embrace them, learn from them, and enjoy the ride of continuous improvement.
?
Cheers.
