Making Money and Memories

Making Money and Memories

Usually, I start my article with a “Today at a glance” section to help you know what you are getting into.

But today is going to be short.

Let's go.

This past week, my sister became a year older.

It was a special day because I got to celebrate one of the people I hold so dear. And what’s a celebration without something a little extra?

I made some plans earlier and budgeted carefully for the day. While I wanted to do something special, I also wanted to be cautious with my spending.

Looking at my plans, it felt like a lot at first. But today, seeing the smile on her face, I realized it was worth every bit. The joy it brought her and those around her made me so happy that the money didn’t even matter.

And something else made me see things this way.

I recently got into a cab with a rough driver who almost got into a collision.

Thankfully, nothing serious happened, but if it had, none of that planning or money would have mattered.

This is a reminder.

A reminder to make moments for the people around you whenever you can. No gesture is too small, and time is short.

Yes, time is annoyingly short.

Yesterday, My sister was the little girl ratting me out every time.

Today, she's the young woman who is always asked by Aunties and Uncles every chance they get, “Boda nko?”.

My kid brother, the baby I used to carry, is almost my height now.

Tomorrow, if life goes on, they’ll be the cool aunt and uncle my kids will want to spend holidays with.

My point? Time flies.

So make memories whenever possible.

Be wise, but don't hold back—whether it’s with your time, energy, or love.

And it’s not just about money.

Work might be hectic, but take the time to do that video call. Use your skills to surprise them.

If you’re a designer, create a digital card or note. If you’re an accountant, share a helpful financial tip.

Whatever you do, let them know they’re important to you. Make memories.

Remember, You’ve got this.

Till next time.

Salud.

In Case You Missed It:

Last week, I wrote about What I'd Tell My Younger Self about Taking Low Chances talking about how sometimes the best opportunities come from situations with slim odds and why taking unlikely opportunities can lead to unexpected success.

Updates on things I am watching/reading/doing:

  • Repair and Remain
  • I haven’t forgotten about posting about Lessons I got from reading The Power of Character in Leadership by Dr. Myles Munroe.
