making marketing work??

making marketing work??

i dreamt of leading out-of-the-box campaigns for brands since i was in college. be it sending out diverse, inclusive messages on beauty or similar to snickers pointing out you are not who you think you are when you're hungry, my list is still endless.

but, lately i feel like i am stuck in a rut while working. like i am on a treadmill...you get the picture? going nowhere fast. no genius ideas, no strong strategies.

last week i mostly spent wondering how do i get over this! it's ridiculous. i seldom can't function when i am not doing anything productive.

so i did what i do best.

turned to my friends, books, podcasts and youtube for inspiration. did it help? somewhat.

after enough debate, i planned to make marketing work for me, maybe even romanticize it a little. ??

but how?

  1. setting a morning routine to seize the day- i HAD a morning routine previously. but guess what? i grew out of it because it wasn't sustainable for the long-term. i have now downloaded this app called onrise. it's a pretty simple app that helps you create long-term habits such as- waking up at 6:30 am, having a warm glass of cumin and fennel water with a dash of lime, meditating for 10 mins, yoga for 30 mins, take a shower, enjoy your tea/coffee [can't survive without it], and ease into work by 8:30/9 am. breakfast by 10:30 am. caught me! this is exactly what i am tracking on the app currently.
  2. knowing your peak hours- i love my 8 hours of sleep and CANNOT function at night. my peak hours are usually early mornings when the whole team literally sleeps. i get so much work done, it's insane! even if you're a night owl, it's perfectly fine. you can wake up late and use the afternoon to do mundane tasks such as replying to emails, attending messages from colleagues, basic meetings and get the best work done late evening or at night when your brain power and energy is at its peak.
  3. upskilling to the rescue- this is the rut i am talking about! easing into work was a piece of cake, but what next? if you are in a similar situation, you have to follow this. upskill! marketing is evolving day-in and day-out. you need to keep up. this is where you break the monotony. once you take a couple of solid powerful courses, you'll have so much to work on! there are some awesome platforms that can help you with learning and development. my favourite? CXL.
  4. time blocking- USE your google calendar. this is the most golden piece of advice i can ever give...

?? this is how my personal and work calendar looks when integrated. with time, those extra white spaces will have meetings and other commitments too. that said, maintaining your work and personal commitments on a google calendar will not just help you with time blocking but also hold you accountable and you'll get the work done. tried and tested!
