Making Life Easier: Smart Lessons from Waze and Other Top Companies
Have you ever noticed that some people seem helpless when it comes to making decisions? It’s as if, deep down, they don’t want to be responsible for the outcome. Instead, all they need is somebody else, an expert or an authority, or a company, to just tell them what to do. That's why understanding how and why people make decisions isn't just important, it's essential. This is why I love investing in companies who in their early days give very few options for consumers but are experts and the best in class at what they do. Having a single entry point provides the solution we need in order to bridge the gap between people being paralyzed by indecision and actively participating in our own lives. Let me explain..
The majority of people I know are constantly looking for ways to make their lives easier. From self-driving cars to smart home systems, technology keeps advancing at a pretty fast rate, with the promise of simplifing our daily routines and alleviating our nightly struggles. However, it is not only the technological advancements that make our lives easier, but also the companies that design them.
One of the best examples of a company that has mastered the art of making life easier is my personal favorite, Waze. To me it's the best navigation app that provides real-time traffic information to help drivers find the quickest routes to their destination. What sets Waze apart from other navigation apps I've used is its user-generated content. Instead of relying on static maps and data from government agencies, Waze relies on its community of users to provide up-to-date information about the sneakily hiding traffic cops, traffic conditions, accidents, and road closures. By crowdsourcing this data, Waze provides a much more accurate and reliable navigation than any other app in the market so far.

But Waze's success is not just about the technology it uses. It's also about the way it simplifies the user experience. With Waze, you don't have to type in your destination address or manually update your route when you encounter traffic. The app does all of this for you automatically, using its real-time traffic data to adjust your route as needed. Waze's interface is super clean, intuitive, and requires minimal input from the driver. It's a perfect example of a company that makes life easier by reducing the cognitive load on its users.
Another one of my favorite companies that excels at making life so much easier is Amazon. From its one-click ordering system to its Alexa voice assistant, Amazon has designed its products and services to be as simple and intuitive as possible. Amazon's success can be attributed in part to its focus on customer service and experience. By understanding the needs and preferences of its customers, Amazon is able to tailor its products and services to meet their specific needs. This is evident in the way that Amazon uses data to personalize its recommendations and make the shopping experience more convenient and enjoyable. They are also the greatest with, returns, refunds and crediting customers for undelivered or stolen items.
So, what can we learn from these companies that make life easier? First, simplicity is key. By reducing the cognitive load on your customers, you can create a user experience that is intuitive and effortless. Second, focus on customer experience. By understanding the needs and preferences of your customers, you can tailor your products and services to meet their specific needs. Most important of all, provide value. Whether it's through lower prices, high-quality products, or exceptional customer service, providing value to your customers is essential for building a loyal customer base like Thursday Boots has done.
Making life easier requires a deep understanding of your customers and a commitment to simplicity, customer experience, and value. Companies like Waze and Amazon have shown that it is possible to create products and services that make our lives easier, and that doing so can lead to great success. Remember these lessons and when you're starting a business or creating a product, stick to creating things that have a very clear single entry point that will make your future customers lives a lot easier.
