Making Informed Decisions, Fast! What Frameworks Do You Have in Place to Support You?

How fast can you make decisions to keep moving forward??

I recently worked with a client who needed to make some big decisions. Together we decided to put a time limit in place. 24 hours. No excuses, no extensions. Just one full day to gather all of the information, lay it out in front of us, and make those big calls.

Why would my client want that pressure on their big business decisions? Why would I push for a fast resolution over slow, careful, and methodical planning??

In business, momentum and speed are everything.

Every moment you spend working in your business and? with your teams, you’re burning through key resources. Money, time, and energy. The more time, energy and money you spend making decisions, the less you’ll have to actually action those decisions and move your business forward.?

It can be so tempting to spend weeks figuring out big decisions, but you’re just exhausting yourself and your team before the real work even begins.?

So, how can you make quicker decisions, saving your business time, money, and manpower?

Set a time limit.

Not just any time limit, a tight time limit. Choose a speedy deadline and stick to it. Remember, this isn’t a deadline to action your decision, but simply to make a choice. To choose a direction. This should only take anywhere from an hour to a day depending on the choices you need to make.?

Now that you have your deadline to make your decision, it’s time to gather all the information and review it. The energy you have saved and the time pressure will give you and your team the laser focus you need to make a call.?

I know what you’re thinking. What if you make the wrong call? Surely with a little more time, you’ll know exactly what to do… right?

Unfortunately, business doesn’t work that way. You’re never going to know for certain whether you have made the right decision until you see the result. This doesn’t mean you should be reckless and flip a coin. All you can do is look at the information in front of you and base your decision on that. If you drag out the decision-making process, you’re inviting doubt to creep in while your momentum slows to a stop.?

At the end of the day, the best thing you can do for your business & your teams is to keep moving forward. Continue to make decisions, action them, and then measure the progress. From there you can review and tweak your plan, optimising it to reach your goal. Without having made any decision in the first place, you’ll be stuck with no momentum, no progress, and - hand to heart - nothing to show.

Remember, there are always more decisions to make. As soon as you make one choice, you’ll need to make another, and another. The faster you can set up your decision-making framework and make the big calls, the faster your business & teams can move forward.

It’s time to stop looking at the issue and start focusing on the solution. Set a deadline, choose a direction, and don’t look back.?
