This Sunday my daughter Leia and I attended a free event organised by the Stories Of Lynn on how to make a lantern! This was organised for the local children to make lanterns to then take on a parade and eventually get to watch the Christmas lights being switched on.?
These lovely bunch of people gave up their time on a Sunday to help little ones cut, stick and make a lantern.?Now by itself this is a fabulous and generous thing to do, however I was struck by the kindness, attentiveness, passion and cheerful disposition of the helpers. Literally nothing was to much effort for them. ?All of them without fault spent time with Leia (and other children), patiently helping, answering questions and explaining why their shoes where flashing!
I thought this was lovely but I wasn’t prepared for the impact it had on Leia.?When we returned for the parade later Leia immediately sought out the lady that had helped her build the lantern, insisted on holding her hand and then dancing together.
This made me think about the impact that we have on each other.?The smallest act of kindness, taking a few minutes to help or support someone or just being generally nice has a lasting impact that you often can’t see.?
I have to admit I am the first person to try and skip through the “fluffier” things in life as I am usually on a deadline.?However, seeing Leia’s little smiley face and her dancing with this lady made me realise we should all take a little time out to make someone’s day a bit brighter.
With mental health being the hot topic at the moment its good to remember that we can all make someone’s life a little brighter, it only takes a few minutes. It also has the lovely side effect of making you feel happier!
This is a picture of my wonderful daughter before we danced and paraded around!

3 年How fabulous - look at her smile and clearly it had a huge impact on both of you. Absolutely don't underestimate the kindness we can share with others and how little it can take to make a big impact ??

3 年That's lovely Graham, you are so right! What a lovely young lady you will raise showing her the value in kindness :)

3 年Lovely article and lovely picture. I think kindness is so underrated, kindness, like smiling is infectious and should be celebrated and encouraged more! Great that Leia saw the joy in this too. Often the negative side of people is heard about so its nice to flip the narrative :)
