Making Home Possible
SAMMinistries
SAMMinistries prevents homelessness in San Antonio through a compassionate, holistic approach that brings independence.
Nikisha Bronson Baker - President and CEO
San Antonio and Bexar County have been among the fastest-growing metroplexes in the nation for the past several years. Since 2020, the area has grown by nearly 75,000 people, and, unfortunately, housing supply has not kept up. With more than half of our neighbors living paycheck to paycheck, the rising cost of goods and inflation have left many on the brink of homelessness.
SAMMinistries’ programs and services are needed now more than ever, and we have expanded our offerings to meet community need. The organization delivers services rooted in the principles of Housing First and Trauma-Informed Care. These evidence-based practices help ensure that the families and individuals served have the knowledge, tools, and resources needed to achieve housing stability and maximum independence.
The impact of our work is rewarding, but not without its challenges. The dedicated staff who provide direct care to our neighbors in need, and the administrative team that supports them, have struggled in the wake of post-pandemic inflation to serve more vulnerable clients today than ever before. Through it all, our community of supporters uplift us with their prayers and gifts of time, talent, and treasure.
Together, we are overcoming homelessness, one household at a time.
On the Horizon
In the coming year, SAMMinistries is preparing to break ground on two Permanent Supportive Housing resources aimed at helping the City of San Antonio meet the goals of its Strategic Housing Implementation Plan. The Hudson Service Center and The Commons at Acequia Trails development, will provide critically-needed housing and healthcare for resources for those in our community who have experienced chronic homelessness and who also live with a physical or mental health disability.
Thank you for partnering with us to change the lives of our neighbors and strengthen San Antonio and Bexar County.
The State of Homelessness
On January 25, 2024, SAMMinistries staff members joined with other Continuum of Care organizations, community members, and local representatives to count our neighbors experiencing homelessness.
The Point-in-Time (PIT) Count helps local and national organizations allocate resources, spread awareness of programmatic offerings, and establish data-driven solutions to overcome homelessness.
