Making green energy a reality

Making green energy a reality

Renewable energy projects are growing rapidly, but the primary source of global energy remains fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas. These fuels were formed millions of years ago from decomposed plants and animals, and we extract them from the earth to generate energy. However, this process releases heat and CO2, contributing to climate change through the greenhouse effect.

The industrial revolution marked a significant shift in our energy consumption. Before this era, there were fewer than 300 parts per million (ppm) of CO2 in the Earth's atmosphere. Today, that number has surpassed 400 ppm and continues to rise. This increase in CO2 levels leads to the trapping of heat from the sun, resulting in a warmer planet due to the greenhouse effect.

Scientific consensus confirms that global temperatures are rising, with the past decade being the hottest, and 2023 being the hottest year on record. This trend underscores the urgent need to reduce our (global, corporate, individual) reliance on fossil fuels and transition to alternative energy sources like solar, wind, and hydro power. It's imperative to shift our focus from traditional energy extraction methods to sustainable and environmentally friendly alternatives.
