The Paris-based AI startup, which made quite a buzz for raising the highest seed funding ever, just released a 7 billion model that has outperformed Llama 2 13B on all benchmarks and Llama 1 34B on several benchmarks. The release was unlike any other, and Mistral AI definitely knows how to throw a party, making AI better, as well as fun.
A few days before releasing the open-source model on GitHub, Mistral AI decided to post the magnet link on X, promoting the true essence of open source and making it fun at the same time, “cutting out the middleman,” said Eric Hallahan, an indie developer. Many even lauded its release approach, calling it a true open-source champion.
Mistral 7B was released with an Apache 2.0 licence, which means that it is actually open source, unlike Meta’s Llama 2, which has several restrictions on usage. This also means that the model can be used for research and commercial uses without any restrictions. This new model proves that small models can actually perform a lot better than their larger counterparts, which is the whole point of open source.?
The team claimed that Mistral 7B is the most powerful model of its size to date. At present, the model can be downloaded from GitHub or even torrent, and run locally with just a 13.4 GB size. It can also be deployed on AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure, using vLLM inference server and skypilot. Many users on HackerNews said that they have already started deploying it on Macbook M1 Air and compared the performance with GPT-3.5.

Trusting AI Blindly?
“People May Be More Trusting of AI When They Can’t See How It Works,” read one of the articles in the latest edition of Harvard Business Review, which showed how not knowing the workings of a model, helped people trust the process more.?
A similar pattern can be observed among the tech industry leaders. Apple, one of the image-conscious companies of the Silicon Valley, has also made sure to keep a tight-lip about their AI doings. The same goes for OpenAI, which is trying really hard to hide its technology, and yet struggling to woo enterprise customers.?

Data Worries Disappear?

He said how every average business user wants their daily activities to be powered by data, not just making sense of it manually. “Data has to disappear behind the scenes and just influence what they are doing,” he added, introducing the Fusion Intelligence Application for the enterprise.?
