Making a Difference - ZB Giving Back in 2022
Giving back to our local communities and people in need is one of Zimmer Biomet’s Guiding Principles and our team members continued to make a difference in 2022.
Across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, many of you hosted fundraisers, collection drives, clean-up days and so much more to uplift and give back to those in need.
I asked team members from across EMEA to share their stories for UN International Day of Volunteering 2022:
In the United Kingdom…
In Bridgend, Wales, team members volunteered for a special school that serves students aged 3 to 19 with a range of additional learning needs. The school needed a wheelchair-accessible pathway and our team members helped to dig the path and lay concrete slabs.
As part of deep-rooted community involvement, Swindon team members renovated the kitchen at a local night shelter and took part in the World's Biggest Coffee Morning; a bake-off to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.?
In November, the team returned once again to overhaul a local hospice’s Remembrance Garden and collected Christmas gifts to send to Ukraine.
In Ireland…
Our Irish team is particularly active! Team members delivered Science, Technology Engineering, Arts and Mathematics courses to nearly 700 students in 2022 and held the Junior Achievers Recognition Scholarship Award Ceremonies in Galway and Shannon.
In August, 10 team members volunteered to make more accessible the home of a local family with a child born with a rare congenital disorder. Another group completed 50 and 100-kilometre cycle challenges to raise funds for local charity?Down Syndrome Limerick.
The Irish team also raised money for the Irish Cancer Society through car washing and selling daffodils.
In Poland…
Every month, team members prepare sandwiches for people in need, after working hours, in kitchen at ZB's Warsaw site. In total, the team has made more than 5,000 sandwiches in 2022! They have also collected needed items for Ukrainians in Poland and hosted food drives.
They also organized a “Degustation & Donation” event where team members baked and sold cakes, using funds to buy more food for the Daj Herbat? an organization that benefits people experiencing homelessness.?
In November, they hosted a Christmas Auction where team members crafted or provided a service and then auctioned it online. Money raised was also donated to Day Herbat?. Additionally, team members took part in environmental activities, planting 70 trees during their first event, with more planned, and took part in a clean-up event.

In Germany…
Team members from Freiburg joined a local non-profit organization to help prepare “packages of hope” with essential items and logistics to assist people in Ukraine.
In France…
Teams from Brognard and Saint Priest organized a nationwide collection for the French Red Cross, collecting more than 35kg of goods. In November, the teams collaborated again with the Red Cross to provide Christmas boxes for people experiencing homelessness as well as toys and books for children in need.
In Lebanon, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey…
In June, team members from these four countries collaborated with local orphanages. Team members played and had lunch with the children, and donated meals, clothes, stationery, and medicine where it mattered most – and they’re following up with a book donation drive.
In Switzerland…
Every year, members of our Research team dedicate time to restore wildlife habitat. This year, more than 25 team members from our Swiss and US Research teams helped restore habitat for the mountain grouse, an endangered bird. The team also helped to maintain local hiking trails, which protects the nature reserve.
More than 30 team members met up for World Clean-up Day in September and attended to the area surrounding our manufacturing site in Winterthur.
In April and September, the Zug team hosted a charity lunch collecting donations for the Swiss Red Cross and the Swiss Cancer Research Foundation.
Individuals Making a Difference...

Every year, it fills me with pride to see ZB team members, across EMEA and worldwide, giving back to our communities and uplifting those in need. It’s another way that we deliver on our mission to alleviate pain and improve the quality of life for people around the world.
