Making a difference
This year Sumillion have committed to working with Enliven Mama Africa NGO and Thrive Africa with the aim of assisting local communities across Ghana to improve living standards and educational level through a range of self-sustainable projects. We chose Ghana as they have some of the most deprived community’s in the world, where our contribution would make the largest difference.
Access to safe, clean water is a basic human right, recognised by the UN in 2010; however it is still not always achieved.
The main focus of our efforts will be to provide the funding, support and resources to supply clean and safe drinking water to the poorest and most in need. Sumillion provided the resources for six communities to gain access to safe clean drinking water. These include
Akim Kotoko Abodom –Easten region, Banso on Lake Bosomtwe, Manpong, Bayiri Bong, Effdiase Dadiore
Currently these villages source their water from sites which they know are polluted and cause significant health issues. Often far from the village and shared with livestock, they have no other choice, as they lack the funds to invest in improvements. Sumillion provided the resources for six water projects to improve access to potable water to 11,500 beneficiaries.
These villages have largely been over looked by successive district governments, partly due a general lack of funding and political change but also due to their remoteness and poor infrastructure maintenance. Heavy rain can make access impossible which badly affects the education of the children and dangerous to anyone needing medical assistance.
We will also be making efforts to source the ICT equipment badly needed by underfunded schools. Computer education classes are mandatory in Ghana, but many schools have no IT equipment; meaning they are taught computer theory on a blackboard. Enabling internet access to students will empower them and prepare them for a modern world. Other places which have gained access have seen a positive impact in areas including financial inclusion, poverty reduction and better health services.
The success of Sumillion means creating a business that empowers customers, employees, and community. We want to add positive value to people’s lives, giving back to our world and the community. All people are equal and deserve the opportunity for growth and happiness.
We could give money to charity and feel a certain sense of personal satisfaction that the projects might still get built, but to travel and contribute, to see the work through and shake hands with people we’re helping, it affirms our solidarity with them.
Sumillion don’t donate money for recognition, but we hope our story inspires you to seek out your own philanthropic adventure, or to work with us and continue to change the world for the better.
For 2019-2020 Sumillion’s annual mission would be to Ghana with @Enliven Mama Africa and @ThriveAfrica. We believe everyone should have access to safe, clean drinking water. The projects would provide this fundamental right to thousands of people in some of the poorest and most remote areas.
We partnered with Enliven Mama Africa https://enlivenmamaafrica.org
Volunteering with Enliven Mama Africa in Ghana is a unique and exciting life-changing experience. The people of Ghana are the most welcoming and genuine you could hope to meet. We would see the outcome of our work, the benefit it would provide, and explore a beautiful country and experience an incredible culture.
