Making a decision? First: create a space for deciding
Inspired by my first Meditative Story Listen to it here >
What’s the role of a leader, teacher, parent etc... I have spent my life searching for and defining this for myself. Most days, my role has been to guide, persuade and communicate with teams, or my family as we make large changes in direction. And then to give everyone the tools, encouragement and purpose to pull forward together, strongly and happily, in that new direction.
But behind this, there’s a vital gift we might not talk enough about: making the decisions that guide this change. Decisions you can stand by with every fiber of your being. Not snap decisions, but thoughtful, deliberate choices that inspire, that create possibility.
In my first Meditative Story, I talk about where I go mentally and physically when I need to think about something very big, like: a new job offer, a parenting or marriage decision. What I do when I’m unsure, insecure, or searching for clarity on what I should do next?
For these decisions, I seek out a sanctuary. A quiet place.
I’ve been lucky to learn how to turn off my mind, so I can tune into another frequency: sanctuary is what I need to make a decision. A place that clears my head, that creates a wide open space for all possibilities. A place where I can dream … and then decide.
Although it's very personal, I’m happy to share this Meditative Story, especially now, because I see so many people who have had their lives upended by this year's events.
You may not have been planning on making a huge what-to-do-with-my-life decision right now. But the need for it has been forced upon you, and has you questioning everything you thought you wanted.
I discovered early on, the worst time to make a decision is when you're under pressure, unclear, afraid, even resentful. I hope by sharing my personal story you may be inspired to find your sanctuary. A place where you can pause, think about your purpose, dream … and then decide.

3 年I agree! Decisions are the hardest to make in life. Having a place to meditate and think thoroughly before choosing is a must need. One thing I never forget is that it's better to make the decision than to stay on standby for a long time.
