“Making Corporate Boards of Directors More Effective”
Philippe D. Monnier
Entrepreneur / Board Director / Interviewer of Business & Political Leaders / Event Organizer
Last Saturday, I completed an executive course at Harvard Business School about the captioned topic. I enjoyed the quality of the faculty and the relevance of the covered topics. This course was targeted at board directors of listed companies -- or of companies intending to become listed. It was my second in-person executive course at Harvard Business School (the first was 10 years ago about “Intellectual Property Strategy”).
?
As usual, the main value addition of such a course was the diversity and experience of the 65 participants from all over the world, even though most of the work had to be done individually before landing in Boston (i.e. by preparing about 20 business cases).?
?
Recently, I also took three online courses: one about “Digital Transformation” (from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, MIT), one about “Circular Economy and Sustainable Strategies” (from Cambridge University), and one about “Management of Fashion and Luxury Companies” (from Università Bocconi). All these three online courses were enlightening but nothing replaces in-person attendance.
?
My next course will be about “科学技術”i.e., “Science & Technology”, offered by the University of Tokyo. The specific challenge is that this course (including its exams) will be in Japanese. It shall keep me busy during the remaining weekends of this summer…
