Making Content Creation Sustainable
Content creation - we all know how important is content creation and how video can play an important role in it. It doesn't matter whether it's a video, written from or photos, a lot of us struggle with consistency. I know it very well from my own experience.
From time to time we have this grand vision about starting a podcast, youtube channel gets that ticktok off the ground or dominates Instagram with photos. And we even start doing it but over the time we start getting more work or other things pops up and this grand plan of content creation and distribution is put on hold until next wave of inspiration - let's do it again.
I've been thinking a lot about consistency recently and how crucial it is to the success of the long run. Instead of bombarding social media for a week could we be consistent every week for at least a year?
If yes how we can go about it. I think creating a framework can help with that.
Creating my home video studio ready to go is a huge part of it. Deciding on what kind of platform I'm going to focus on was the other one. I can't be everywhere. I mean I can but posting the same content everywhere doesn't bring the desired results we are after. I've tested the same content on LinkedIn, Instagram and YouTube and they behave differently as the audience and context of this platform is different.
Coming up with a plan, a simple one, a the beginning which will be doable for the long run, and start doing it day after day, week after week.
Putting on that reps, like in a gym, in and out and see how it performs over a longer period of time. Then do adjustments and see what's next.
So once we've got all set, plan in mind that we are going to record video the hardest thing is yet to come... we need to post it. Yup, I've been working on my workflow and office for a month and at some point everything was ready. So I said, ok this week I'm going to post it... it didn't happen, then the second week, it didn't happen, and the third week.... nope. I was thinking about what else I need to add to my office space to make it work. The truth was I needed to add nothing.
My self imposed creative perfection and being afraid of negative feedback that my creativity is not as good as I think took over.
Let's be honest no matter how much time I would have I would use it all to polish and re-edit that perfect video. It will never happen. I will never create the perfect video as the game is to aim for perfection and never achieve it. However, the more I do this kind of videos I will become even better at them. I asked myself how my creativity would look like once I make 100 more videos. The answer is simple... better.
Most of the videos would be average, below or above the average according to my high standards but some of them may turn out epic, just some. And overall progress through doing extra 100 videos can surprise even me.
So you've got a choice. You can create a simple game plan with consistency, as the main focus, forget about perfection and all your insecurities and go and execute it. Just go and create it, as simple as that...
Or don't it's your choice.

4 å¹´Thanks for this Greg. Inconsistancy in posting videos, articles or anything else is really common and by identifying it, we can bring it to mind and look to do better.

4 å¹´Love it Greg - plan, be consistent and don't try to be a perfectionist to begin, even some big Hollywood directors early pieces were, well shall we say "a good effort" - great article, all super-valid points...
