Today, everything has got to be fast. It all started with the fast food industry in the mid-20th century. Since then, Americans want fast to be even faster. And it is no different for their health – Americans want to get strong fast, lose weight fast and get healthy fast. They want the quick fix – the magic pill. With no magic pill available, some Americans abuse their bodies with gadgets and certain supplements trying to find that magical moment when they are strong, healthy and lean.
Ironically, achieving a healthy and strong muscle mass is the magic pill! While it’s not fast – it takes time and dedication - it provides incredible health benefits, including all the things listed below.
· Improved blood pressure and lipids, bone density, mental health, resting metabolism, blood sugar control, muscle function and joint stability
· Lower risk for certain cancers
· Healthier muscle mass
· Reverse age-related loss of muscle
· Critical fall prevention
· Fewer joint replacements
Muscle can predict longevity! It’s never too late to start. It is amazing how muscle responds to a little stimulus - work the muscle and it does get stronger! Stimulate the muscle even more and over a longer period of time and you will get healthier. Maybe it is time to change the expectation of a “quick fix” to get healthy.
But be sure to start your resistance training correctly. Reach out to a certified personal trainer to have a program set up based on your needs and be sure to check with your doctor first before getting started.
