Making the case for...Fairground Letter Lights

When people zig, we like to zag - and right now is one of those times. We're making the case for fairground lights to be integrated into Christmas merchandising windows and visual displays.

Rewind 5 or so years and light-up letters were high profile on the high street. We know this for sure because we made an awful lot of them. Whether it was powdercoated red letters spelling SALE or branded lettering in client colours, we were supplying a lot of built-up letters with either vibrant original fairground lights set within the trough design.

The reason they were so popular was simple: you get an awful lot of bang for your buck. They were good value for our clients to buy and they were always guaranteed to be head-turners.

Over the last year or so, other illumination types have become more popular (neon, lightboxes etc), so if you really want to stand out from the crowded high street this Christmas, then it's likely that high profile fairground lights will be the unusual lighting type on the high street. Shhhh, don't tell people that obviously ;)

We're often asked various questions when customers are enquiring about whether fairground lights could be incorporated into their design ideas, so here's a bit of information that may help you make that decision.

Fairground lights, officially referred to as 'cabochons' by us in the trade, are available in two sizes: 45mm or 60mm at their widest point. They're available in various colours as can be seen in the photograph below. They're illuminated with a specialist 24V cabochon LED which we also supply and which is very low energy consumption.

The fairground lights can be fitted onto many designs, but most commonly we use them within steel letters or shapes. The letters can be painted any standard RAL colour and can be self-standing or fix to a wall - that all depends on their size and where you would like them to be located.

We're normally asked to supply the whole illuminated sign, but if you wish to buy your own fairground lights to make your own letter lights, then that's certainly an option too!
