Making a Bit More of Demand Side Management!

I think we will all agree that the opportunity for organisations to generate income form demand side management activities, such as STOR and FCDM, is a good one. It has number of positives such as aiding the creaking National Grid, as well as on-site load shedding and avoiding the dreaded red tariff band. However a number of energy managers I talk to, who have gone down the DSR route, are often dismayed in that all their time and effort has gone to lining the financial directors P&L account. Whilst that is good for their organisation, it often has little or no impact on the energy mangers remit of saving energy – Booooooo! This is where the energy manager needs to get savvy. They need to find a market partner who can not only do deliver DSR but utilise the cash to provide what the energy manager may need. For many energy managers this comes down to additional resources. Foot soldiers to go and find projects and change behaviour without the additional head count. It is often the case that the savings generated from this additional support dwarves the income form DSM alone.  Here at ENGIE we are working on things such as this; integrating energy management offerings to provide something which actually fulfills the energy management sectors needs.
