Making Baseball Cool Again

Making Baseball Cool Again

America’s pastime – the magic game our grandparents gifted us. There was never anything quite like showing up to a ball game with your glove, buying a hotdog, and praying the next foul ball landed flush in your mitt.

??????????????We’ve lost the magic somewhere along the way. We traded in fan-filled scorecards for mobile phones. It’s the MLB’s fault, too. In the last 50 years the average game length rose a staggering 50% from 2 hours to 3 hours. The average age of a MLB fan is now pushing 60 years old.

??????????????The world of sports tech has all but abandoned baseball. Investments flood into trendier leagues like the NBA and new sports, like pickleball. Even billion-dollar real money sports businesses have failed to resuscitate the flagging game. However, the situation is different at PredictionStrike.

?????????Our goal for 2023 is to make baseball cool again. A lofty goal, but one we’ve begun to already progress towards. We IPO’d the MLB rookie class yesterday (March 29th, 2023). Within 6 minutes we received 100's of trades and over $20,000 in transaction volume. Our users, mostly aged 18-35, were suddenly interested in baseball. We asked them why and here are a few responses:

  • "Had it not been for PredictionStrike I would have likely never heard of Anthony Volpe, but after investing I can’t wait to watch him all season..."
  • "I never used to watch baseball, but ever since I started investing last year I appreciate the ins-and-outs of the game..."
  • "I was already a fan, but PS gets me way more hyped for baseball. I've been looking into analytics for pitchers such as pitch break, exit velocity against, and barrel rate as I build my portfolio..."

????????PredictionStrike is doing what other real money sports companies only scratched the surface of. The key difference is that other real money sports companies build a transactional relationship between athletes and fans. Fans draft a player for a game or contest and then move on. The connection between fans and athletes is fundamentally deeper on PredictionStrike because fans can invest for an athlete's whole career. The compounding excitement Aaron Judge investors felt when he belted 13 homers and 32 RBIs last July was unlike anything baseball fans have felt in decades. Now, his investors are also investing in his rookie teammate Anthony Volpe, who was up +31% one minute after his IPO.

???????While we are on to something groundbreaking here at PredictionStrike, there are also broader tailwinds in the baseball world that we plan to capitalize on. In March of 2023, Miami became the center of the baseball world when it hosted the World Baseball Classic. While their stadium is mostly known for its empty seats and hideous home run sculpture (RIP), it transformed into a madhouse of crazed baseball fans. The Japanese faithful turned out in droves, chanting nonstop as their superhero Shohei Ohtani struck out his Los Angeles teammate Mike Trout in one of the most hyped at bats of all time. The 2023 World Baseball Classic, for one beautiful fleeting moment, made baseball the coolest sport in the world. At PredictionStrike, we want to make that moment last.
