Remember when your home network was installed, you bought the best wireless modem, hooked it up, it was a great feeling, and everything was safe, fast and secure.
- How safe is your current home network?
Now it is two years later… When is the last time you upgraded the firmware of that modem? Did you change the administrator password on the router, or Wi-Fi device every quarter? How about yearly so that no one could login? Have you made sure all you iPad’s, Android devices, Smart Home devices, on your network are updated and patched?
You and I had the same problem, but I took action, have you?
We see this problem with many of our customers before they secure their home networks with Envision Executive Services. Most home networks just seem to float along until something goes wrong.
Did you know:
- 90% of your consumer devices have remote code open doors that can allow cryptomining.
- 92% of malware is delivered by email.
- 54% of home networks experienced an industrial control system security incident
- 61% of home networks have experienced an IoT security incident
These steps to protect your home networks are simple, but must become a part of a quarterly review.
- Hack-proofing your home router – only use supported OS on the device
- Stay up to date – Patch all your devices from Amazon Fire, Your tablets/iPads, and your home automation system
- Do not use your Internet providers modem or wireless device. It is an easy target for hackers.
- Apply a strong password to your admin password on the router and your Wi-Fi password
- Defend your smartphone from hackers, do not download every application to your phone.
- Keep your voice assistants free from hackers, this will be covered more in an upcoming article
- Avoid bootleg streaming devices, do not watch that Game of Thrones episode from the internet
- Call and expert and ask for help
Ransomware is steady, cryptomining is the up and coming danger our next topic will cover cryptomining.
