Make Your Remote Position Job Search A Slam Dunk

Make Your Remote Position Job Search A Slam Dunk

Your 2022 remote position job search is more competitive than you think.

Here's the problem: Not only are 2/3 of US candidates looking for remote jobs when only 1/3 of US employers are offering remote position for most of their jobs, but also 90M+ US candidates are competing for 11M jobs.

And you don't have to even be in the US to apply for a US remote position.

But there's a solution ... you can make your remote position job search a slam dunk. You just need to approach it differently than you have been, differently than you've been taught by other career coaches/authors, outplacement, and what you've been advised by friends and mentors. That might work for a less competitive job search if you get lucky, but a 2022 remote position search is a tougher problem that needs a tougher solution.

Here are a few tips to make your remote position job search a slam dunk:

  1. Qualified Candidates Lose:?There's so much competition for jobs today that employers are buried in qualified candidates (so qualified = average). To land a remote job in 2022, you need to prove that you're better than average in your resume and during interviews.
  2. First Impressions Make Or Break You:?You can make a first impression that immediately makes employers want to read your resume and listen to your interview. Then again, you can make a confusing, broad, general first impression, or recite your resume when asked "tell me about yourself". The first impression that works best is the one almost no job seekers know how to use.
  3. Applying In A Way Other Than Online Makes You Stand Out:?It takes more effort, you won't apply to as many jobs, but avoiding online makes you stand out to employers. You'll stand out because you put in more effort, the hiring manager will get to know you better, and you'll have a better chance to convert an in-office position to remote. Plus, online applications (and the way almost everyone networks) conflict with the process employers use to select their new hires.

I help people solve the most difficult job search problems, including getting past ATSs, ageism, remote positions, product/job function/career/industry/ geographic change, job search acceleration, unemployment, "bouncy" recent career path, job search turnaround, seeking raise/promotion, industry in decline/consolidation, long term gaps, family leave, or other of the most challenging job search issues.

When applying for remote positions, I used the opportunity to brag that I'm retired military -- a Veteran. Personally, I think that helped my call-backs since employers need to fill so many squares these days and perhaps they've had great experiences with prior military (or are prior military themself). Veterans understand the team-concept and working independently "for the mission"/company-client goals" completely -- it's in our blood.
