Make Your Life Easier and More Successful by Making It Up As You Go Along

Chill out and open up your mind and soul

I keep asking myself, “When the hell am I going to figure it out?!?!?”

I’m talking about life. Me. The world.

What to do? What not to do?

The basis for all decisions and reactions.

I realized that when I thought I had it figured out, I didn’t.

Sometimes I got screwed. Sometimes, things turned out OK.

Sometimes, things turned out for the better.

Whatever!!!

The point is, I figured out that I will never figure it all out.

None of us ever will.

That’s a good thing to know.

Because it’s OK.

I’ve realized that all of the best strategizing, research and think-through in the world isn’t going to completely hold up to the vagaries of life.

By realizing this, I am better prepared (and less stressed) to be willing to sometimes just make it up as I go along.

The power of making it up as you go along

Years ago, I gave a commencement address at a broadcast school.

I laid out my career to date through television news to being a successful content creator for major global companies.

I asked, “Sounds like I had a great career plan, right?”

Everyone nodded their heads in approval.

Then I told them, “Actually, I have been making it up as I went along”.

And I’m still making it up as I go along.

Yes, I had intended to follow in the footsteps of my father and grandfather into the news business. For a while it was great. Then it wasn’t.

Then I became a content creator which was good, but not great.

I could have done a better job of figuring it out.

Things change. You change. Life changes. Desires change. Needs change. Opinions change.

Yes, you gotta figure something out. Yes, do your best to figure out and pick a job, career, mate, living place, or whatever.

Maybe you do have that figured out the best you can.

Then again, maybe you don’t need to figure it out totally.

This is where accepting that you need to make it up as you go along can be a successful approach.

There is a solution

First of all, chill.

We get very frustrated, feel like we’re stupid, and even a loser because we don’t have it all figured out.

Chill out…please!

We’re all doing the best we can with what we have and what we know.

As we go through life, we get wiser.

(Hmmm. I’ve heard about this. Oh yeah! Wisdom.).

But there is something you can do now.

Go really, really, really, basic.

Determine what the fundamental life and way of living and being are that you want.

I’m a believer in the Power of Intention. I believe it because it works. Anything you have ever aspired to came as a result of it.

When I began my life transformation, I focused on the most fundamental needs and wants for my life ahead.

My intent was that every morning, I would:

A) Wake up (yeah, pretty fundamental).

B) Feel great and be in great health.

C) Be excited and fulfilled by what I am doing in my life.

D) Be looking forward to the day ahead.

E) Realize how much I had to be grateful for.

F) Not be concerned about money.

These intentions were only about me and what I have control over. Not my relationships or anything external to me.

By having this fundamental intention and purpose for myself, I had the basis for any and all decisions and actions.

Including the external factors.

The details then started working themselves out.

Do the best you can with what you have

I strategize and plan. I believe in it, and I encourage it.

It’s a must-do.

But so is expecting that I am going to have to “make some things up” as I go along because that’s how life is.

This way I get better results because I realize I am going to have to ad-lib, pivot, and adjust as I go.

Oh…and my life is better and I am happier by accepting.

Hmmmm. I guess I have more figured out than I thought.

I’ve actually found the “and make it up along the way” is where the fun and best results lie, provided it layered on top of intention, planning, and strategy. Great post!
