Make Your Job Search Faster By Breaking Through Roadblocks

Make Your Job Search Faster By Breaking Through Roadblocks

It's frustrating when your job search keeps running into roadblocks.

But when you learn how to break through turn those roadblocks, you'll make your search faster and easier.

The problem you're facing is because many common job search strategies cause the roadblocks you face.

As yourself if you're using any of these roadblock-making job search strategies:

  1. Creating A Confusing First Impression: If your resume starts out with a summary, profile, key skills of key accomplishment section, you're creating a confusing first impression that results in roadblocks. If you answer interview questions like "So tell me about yourself?" or "So why are you here?" by summarizing your resume, you're making your own roadblocks.
  2. Focusing On Job Responsibilities Or Experience In Your Resume/Interviews: This is common among job seekers, because you've been taught to think about and describe your career based on responsibilities and experience. The problem is that it describes you as qualified, when you're competing against many other qualified candidates, so it's not enough in 2024's highly competitive job market. Instead, describing responsibilities or experience makes you look average to employers, so it creates more roadblocks.
  3. Applying With Uncustomized Or Lightly Customized Resumes: To employers, this looks like you're not even trying to get an interview, and their systems are designed to screen you out when you spend little time/effort customizing your resume. Job seekers spend an average 15 minutes customizing each resume, which isn't close to enough effort to get through resume database or human screening.
  4. Applying To Jobs Online: When you apply to jobs online through job boards, LinkedIn, company career pages, Applicant Tracking Systems, or any other online application, you're using an application process designed by HR departments to act as a roadblock and only award the lowest quality of interviews.

While these examples result in roadblocks, there are alternative strategies that can turn these into pathways to more interviews, hiring process advancements, and job offers.
