Let your breathing talk

To make your breathing talk, get out of breath.

I request the readers of this article to identify the propensity of this individual growth approach and create a ripple about it by supporting the idea. I also invite the readers to visit my website which is intended to generate awareness about digital wellbeing and create a growing community of supporting members passionate about a fulfilling life.

I am a kind of person who values inner wellbeing more that external approval. I try to maintain a lifestyle in conformation with good principle, value and rationale. I therefore try to evaluate any situation, good or bad from a broader perspective where I restrict my prejudices to influence my understanding.

Well, these are all good. But why then I frequently fail to keep motivation at an optimum level? Why I often fail to keep up with the fighting spirit to forge ahead with the challenges in life? What is that I am missing? Why my rational mind doesn’t serve when it comes to decide between action and procrastination?

Maybe I got some clarity when I went for a run early in the morning today. It always happens with me in the park when running, that I outpace some and some outpace me. I outrun some and many outrun me. This is a casual phenomenon that happens without any one taking a serious note. But today I asked myself a question, if someone is running slower than me, does it mean I am a fast runner? Or vice versa. This thought was lingering in my mind until my heart started beating faster than normal and in a moment all I could do was paying full attention to my breathing and all thoughts disappeared in thin air. In some time, it became like dealing with one breath at a time until it became a matter of survival till, I reach the finish line. Once I regained my normal breath, I realized that if I search for the answer of my question outside, I will probably never get it right. May be the need is to develop the right perspective. I then thought, to develop the right perspective, it is very important to be aware of self. All of us trying to become someone or something else by becoming indoctrinated to something which appears to be important and have a collective approval. In this process we ourselves decide very soon or get other’s decisions, on what we can do or become and what not. After this premature judgement, we clip our abilities and live by doing what most of us are told to do by some few others having circumstantial control. This is where life appears to be burdened and we start craving to free ourselves from this.

Climbing our own ladder

Coming back to my running experience, I can now say that the right perspective is to let my breathing judge which eventually takes over the control of my mind. ?I should compare own performance against my earlier ones and let any improvement give the joy of achievement. In this case, my aerobic capacity. I can be sure that if I practice this regularly, there is almost no chance that I will not get this joy of achievement on some parameters or other almost everyday basis. That means for me, looking at others can prove to be counterproductive or even self-destructive sometimes. So therefore, if my self-awareness tells me that I like to run, then I just simply run. My neuro plasticity will guarantee improvement on this and therefore the sense of achievement. There should not be any reason for me comparing my abilities with others as long as there is no pressing requirement.

This idea can be percolated to other things in life and make it a journey of personal development and growth. The starting point or the ending point doesn’t matter as even though we know that they exist but we can never plan any of these. The more important call is, how to make the transit between these two points a profound experience. One with belief, creativity, trust and growth.

For any idea to prosper and create a bigger impact, it should be nurtured. As this idea of a new way of looking at life has hit me like a thunderbolt this morning, I just can’t stop myself from taking it forward from where I am now. As all things can be done by me and I only have to track them to monitor improvement in the quest of celebrating my growth story, I now can prepare my growth sheet with right metrics. I just need to work on them and plot the measurements to get the trajectory on the chosen areas of development. This will result in a much conscious and planned way to prioritize my daily activities. I might not even have time to worry baselessly over something which often sucks energy out of me. On the other hand, if I can make myself more organized and disciplined in this manner, I might inspire same approach in others as well. No doubt it is a full proof idea and will give same result to everyone.

Creating own space

Imagine a world where individual improvements were recognised just as serious achievements as cracking some set standards. Sets standards may reflect the required ability but improvements can give an indication of motive which is more valuable in long run in any discipline. If a system can be developed where individuals are rewarded for self-development and growth right from the young age, the modern curse of bias and self-fulfilling prophecies could be mitigated and there could be a society more inclusive and progressive in nature as individuals would have been identified by their appetite for growth and discipline. This would reflect in the overall conduct in the society instead of today’s cut throat zero sum competition where either one or the other can occupy a single space. ?
