Make It York, three years on
Jessica McKeown is a Year 10 student at Ripon Grammar School, and is with See Green this week on work experience. Jess came along to the annual stakeholder meeting run by ake It York. Here's hereport...
"Doing my work experience week at See Green gave me the opportunity to attend this year’s Make It York annual stakeholder event, held at the Principal Hotel. With more than 300 attendees, it was a bustling event with lots of people networking and promoting their businesses.
"Make It York is an organisation who develops and promotes the city as an appealing place to work, visit, live and study. This organisation contains many York based companies, SeeGreen being one of them, and has six main areas they cover: tourism marketing, events and festivals, science and innovation, city centre management, business support and inward investment.
"At this event there was a presentation in which we heard about upcoming festivals, plans for York Central and for Shakespeare Rose Theatre. As someone who does not live in York, I still found these plans rather intriguing as York is a destination for tourists and is a beautiful city.
"Each of the upcoming festivals are rather unique and distinct to the others. The Bloom! Festival in July celebrates flowers , the York Balloon Fiesta in September celebrates hot air balloons and the Great Yorkshire Fringe in July fills the streets with musicians, comedians and food and drink. And the St Nicholas Fair in the York Christmas Festival proves that York is the most festive city in Britain.
"The event was a worthwhile experience for me and I look forward to seeing their festivals and plans be made into a reality."
