Make sure you don't forget them
In today's email: SheIn is using AI to play tricks on what you see on its website, Zara entering the second-hand market and Kanye West breaking up with Adidas
THE BIG IDEA
???I remember when I went to the University to get my Computer Engineering degree. I spent so long studying subjects that had no practical application. I did really complex mathematics. Subjects where more than 70% of students failed every quarter. But these were not the worst, the most boring one was... #artificialintelligence (probably one of worst teachers ever)
?? There was a test, the Turin test designed in 1950 by Alan Turing. The test tried to find cases in which a human evaluator could not tell whether the answer to his/her questions was made by another human or by a computer. Back then, the applications of AI were really shallow and you could easily tell.
??After "only" 30 years AI is back on track. But this time on steroids. More computer capacity can now be applied to old theories like neuronal networks or clustering. And that's how companies like SHEIN are starting to use powerful association algorithms to identify what you are most likely to buy.
??But what is SheIn doing? (simple version)
??But what does that mean?
That the products you will see are different from those that will see your brother or sister, friend or whatever. The starting point is the same. That it means the first time you access it, you get the same product grid. But, the more you access, the more accurate is going to be.
