Make Someone's Day Online!

Today begins a regular series about the topics in my upcoming book, "Make Someone's Day: A Guide for You and Your Organization." Today I'm going to discuss how you can Make Someone's Day without leaving your home. Let's take a look at a beautiful example made by the NFL's Buffalo Bills fans, known as the Bills Mafia.

Buffalo fans are remarkable and generous. ESPN reported that after the Bills won their first trip to the AFC Championship Game since 1993, thousands of fans donated over a half million dollars to a charity that Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson supported during his college career at Louisville. You’ve got that right, to the charity that the opposing QB supported. “Shortly after their 17-3 victory over the Ravens in the 2021 NFL playoffs -- a game in which Jackson left during the second half to enter concussion protocol -- momentum was generated among Bills fans online to show support for Jackson by supporting the "Blessings in a Backpack" Louisville chapter.” “It's just been overwhelming -- in the best possible way," said Nikki Grizzle of "Blessings in a Backpack," whose mission is to mobilize communities, individuals and resources to provide food on the weekends for elementary school children across America who might otherwise go hungry. This isn't the first time that Bills fans -- affectionately known as "Bills Mafia" -- have gathered together with a charitable heart. “Bills fans also donated in droves earlier this season to John R. Oishei Children's Hospital after it was announced that quarterback Josh Allen's grandmother had died. Donations to that cause eclipsed $1 million.” Grizzle described what unfolded the past two weeks in one word. "Amazing." she said. Buffalo Bills Mafia, you win the trophy for the fans with the biggest heart. May you get your wish and have your Bills in a Super Bowl sometime soon.

May we all learn from your experience of supporting both your team and the opposing team. That's wonderful generosity and a lesson all of us can learn after the games are played. The Bills Mafia made the day of many children this year, and without even leaving their homes. Whenever you can, make someone's day better through the generosity of funds or your spirit. It's certainly needed and will make you feel great by doing so!

Thanks for sharing this wonderful story about our own Buffalo Bills fans. We are an amazingly generous group who has done so many things through the years to "Make Someone's Day"! Thanks for including us. Look forward to more examples.
