Make A Plan With Your Partner BEFORE The Baby

Make A Plan With Your Partner BEFORE The Baby

MAMA TIP

Make a plan with your partner before the baby arrives! This seems like a simple concept but in the weeks leading up to the birth of our babies we are focused on our pregnancy, the birth and making sure we have everything ready for the babies at home. During your first week postpartum when you are recovering from the birth of your baby and also trying to navigate motherhood, you might not know what to ask for or what you need and neither will your partner. It can sometimes be hard to make a postpartum plan between feedings, crying, diaper changes and trying to get enough sleep.

Make a Plan BEFORE the Baby Arrives

If I had to do it all over again I would talk to Mark BEFORE Evie and Poppy arrived to make a plan on how we would deal with our new normal. I might ask him to sit me down and go over what happens AFTER birth. Create a plan for mama because in the moment I might not have the capacity to stop and think about it for myself or even know what to ask for. Speaking to my partner before would've created an open line of communication, helped him to understand all the changes that happen postpartum and put in support for our entire family.

I needed more help than I was willing to admit to myself or anyone else. For some reason I couldn't voice this, so I needed Mark to step in and say, "How can I help?" Which he did, thank goodness. For those pregnant mamas or new mamas out there, I would talk about the first weeks and months before they happen. Knowing that you will need support but might not know how to ask. Those first few weeks are so precious, you don't want to be in a haze from being burnt out trying to do it all yourself that you can't enjoy them.

Mama are you worried about postpartum? Do you have questions but don't know who to ask? You're not alone. A lot of what we discuss with mamas to be end up being about pregnancy, the birth and your new baby. Do you know what's missing? YOU. Mama, you're the missing piece. We are not planning for postpartum. I'm here to help. If you have questions, are struggling, need guidance or support, don't hesitate to reach out. I'm always here.
