The next time you’re pushing through physical discomfort, endure the pain for a little longer. Try the following techniques to get started:
- Distract yourself.?Don’t focus on the pain. Instead, redirect your attention with distractions. For example, observe your surroundings, practice deep breathing techniques, or count back from 100.
- Reframe pain.?Reframe pain as emotionally neutral information, and you’ll be less likely to panic and give up. Turn off internal alarm signals and reframe the pain as positive—reminding yourself that you’re now one step closer to reaching a new limit.
- Get comfortable being uncomfortable.?Finally, get comfortable being uncomfortable. The more often you push through pain, the easier it gets. Slowly work your way up, and you’ll find that you’re capable of more than you think.
