Make the Most of Your Passion

On April 6, 2019, we raised more than $130,000 at our undersea-themed After d’Arc gala, “Seas the Day.” We are incredibly grateful for the tremendous outpouring of support from our business community, as it enables us to empower people with differing abilities to seize the opportunity to achieve their dreams, live independently, enjoy a fulfilling professional career, volunteer in our community, and much more. But, truly seizing the chance to support our mission goes far beyond an event – it is a chance for a rewarding lifelong experience.

What does this level of dedication entail? To me, whether with The Arc NCR or a nonprofit with a different target market, it involves making the most of your personal passions.  When I think about what it means to support OUR mission in this manner, my mind immediately turns to the Walls family. You may know Tom and Sharon Walls and their daughter, Katie Hargrove, from Plaza Ford. But did you know their family has been involved with The Arc NCR for more than 25 years?

From title sponsor to serving on our Board of Directors to hours of volunteering on planning committees, you can’t look at our annual gala memories without spotting the Walls:

The Walls’ family ties and commitment runs deep: Tom’s cousin, Dwight, previously received services from us before passing away. They are also dear friends with one of our original founders, Ruth Miller.

Tom Walls proudly helps honor Ruth in 2015, the year we created the Ruth Miller Legacy Society at The Arc NCR.

The Walls’ passion for helping people with differing abilities led them to found the Miracle League of Harford County in 2016, working to build a custom-designed baseball field that will allow athletes with ALL abilities to enjoy baseball.
