'AI Bill of Rights' by the White House addresses critical concerns in the use of Artificial Intelligence.

Major U.S. tech companies, including 亚马逊 , 谷歌 , 微软 , and OpenAI , have pledged to uphold a list of responsible-AI commitments with regards to the 'AI Bill of Rights' in the absence of nationwide AI regulations. Formulated in consultation with President Biden and Vice President Harris, these commitments fall into three categories:

Safety: Companies will allow independent experts to test their AI systems before release and share safety information with governments, academia, and civil society.

Security: They promise to invest in cybersecurity, protect proprietary model weights (protecting proprietary model weights refers to implementing security measures to safeguard the core components of an AI model, ensuring their confidentiality and preventing unauthorized access or misuse), and enable users to report vulnerabilities.

Trust: Companies will publicly report their models' capabilities, limitations, and risks, prioritize research into social harms (an example could be the creation of fake content using Generative AI to spread misinformation and manipulate public opinion), and develop systems to address significant challenges like climate change. They will also explore methods, like watermarks, to identify generated output.

Chris Mermigas, Head of Legal at RSA Security, stresses the importance of ethical programming, stating, "An algorithm isn't inherently discriminatory. It's the person who programs it who might practice either active or passive discrimination."

The obligations, except for watermarking generated output, are relatively straightforward to meet. For example, numerous established companies utilize independent entities to test safety and security, and some publish papers outlining the risks of their AI research. Leaders in the industry already engage in discussions about limitations, take measures to mitigate risks, and initiate projects aimed at addressing significant societal challenges.

Addo AI agrees with the principles outlined in the 'AI Bill of Rights', as it aligns with its commitment to ethical AI and a responsible future.

These commitments are a step toward guiding AI forward in ways that maximize benefits and minimize harms — even if some companies already fulfill them. Nonetheless, laws are necessary to ensure that AI’s benefits are spread far and wide throughout the world. Important work remains to craft such laws, and they’ll be more effective if the AI community participates in crafting them.
