Make an instant impact every time you speak.
Most people are not successful because they're doing too many things, and they're doing the wrong things. - John Maxwell
Everyone’s heard of the Pareto Principle (or 80/20 rule), right? You spend 80% of your time with 20% of your friends, you’ll get 80% of your income from 20% of your clients, and 80% of your leadership headaches come from 20% of your team, etc.
When it comes to effective communication, what will give you 80% of the return for just 20% of the effort?
Well, focusing on just these five steps will help you create a powerfully persuasive presentation every time you speak in a fraction of the time it normally takes.
1.? ?You’ve got to make a point!
Clarity is key. Before you speak, ask yourself: What’s the main point I want to get across? Don’t just start speaking; be very clear about the audience's benefit from listening to you. What’s the point? Clarity on this will save you more time than anything else.
2.? ?You’ve got to make it more interesting!
Information alone can be dull. Bring your points to life with personal stories and experiences.
Great questions to ask yourself before you teach anything:
· Where did I learn this?
· How did I learn this?
· What mistakes have I made along the way?

Sharing your journey will help your audience and hold their attention at the same time.
3.? ?You’ve got to try and make it more fun!
Lighten up a little, will you? :) If you can have fun when you’re communicating, maybe your audience will too. Keep in mind that everyone loves to enjoy themselves while they learn.
4.? ?You’ve got to make it shorter!
Less is more. When you first try and say something that is in your head, you use way more words than you need to. But the truth is, trying to say it is the quickest way to get clear on what you’re trying to say!
If you’re using more words than you need to, your audience will drift off.
The better you know your topic, the easier it is to simplify it.
5.? ?You have to make it count!
Finally, make sure your message has some kind of call to action. Whether you're asking the board to approve your proposal, encouraging your team to take action, or asking a potential employee to join the team, always ask them to do what it is you want them to do next.
By following these steps, you’ll master the art of impactful communication, ensuring your message lands every time. If there are any steps you think I’m missing, comment below and let me know!
