Make in India!
I was so happy when I heard the Ranibagh Hindustan Machine Tools (HMT) factory is reopening to complete its pending order of watches estimated to be worth Rs 1.5 crore. The factory was closed down two years back.
The brothers who are selling Litti Chokha of Bihar in front of HUDA City Centre Metro station in Gurgaon was so excited when I shared this news with them! They said their father used have an HMT watch which they used to admire about! And we would love to have one for ourselves this time!
I don't know why we are closing down our prestigious brands like this. Can't we use our Make in India schemes extended to our sick units and find out solutions to revive them? Let people give valuable suggestions to that directions...
Thirty years back I had worked at HMT Kalamassery. I still remember the smell of oil and grease run through the huge Turning machines. We had got some good orders from many foreign countries. The Tool Rooms were busy all the time. Delegations from across the world used to visit our factory frequently. And it was the golden era of Hindustan Machine Tools!
Can't we bring back that glory once again? We have lots of Engineers and Technicians looking for opportunities to prove their merit. Give them a chance!
I was listening to our Prime Minister on his Start-Up India plans. Can we use the manpower and infrastructure of all our sick units towards this scheme? It will be kind of helping the Start-Ups with the right support. Let us all discuss this very seriously.
