Make HOP part of your DNA in 2025

What?

For 2025 we are on a mission to raise awareness of the transformational effects of adopting a Human and Organisational Performance Improvement-centric approach to operational excellence, across all UK businesses.

We are offering you an opportunity to learn more about our HOP approach absolutely free of charge with no strings attached!

Why Now?

Because we believe in giving back! UK businesses are currently grappling with a range of challenges, including ongoing economic uncertainty fuelled by inflation, rising interest rates, and the cost-of-living crisis, which are affecting consumer spending and business costs. Supply chain disruptions, exacerbated by Brexit and global geopolitical tensions, have led to increased costs and delays. Labour shortages in key sectors, partly due to changes in immigration policies and a shrinking workforce, are making recruitment and retention difficult. Additionally, businesses are under growing pressure to adopt sustainable practices and comply with evolving environmental regulations, which can require significant investment. These factors, combined with heightened competition and the need to embrace digital transformation, are creating a complex landscape that demands agility and resilience from UK businesses.

Over the last 14 years, we have seen how adopting the HOP Principles to transform their operational culture, gives organisations of all shapes and sizes that agility and resilience.

What is HOP?

In the mid 1990’s, Human Performance Improvement (HPI) became well-established as a method for preventing incidents caused by human error primarily in the nuclear and aviation sectors.

The theory and original concepts were introduced in the 1950s in the United States military, and the methodology developed over subsequent decades has continued to advance.

Today, with the understanding that organisations often inadvertently set their people up to fail due to the complexity of their systems coupled with a culture of silence in the face of trouble, Human and Organisational Performance (HOP) has come to the fore.

The essential elements of a HOP culture are a new permeating set of beliefs (the principles), and a leadership team who understand how work is really done, underpinned by the best elements of well-established techniques such as total quality management, lean manufacturing, human factors, engineering design principles, quality assurance, occupational health and safety management and behaviour-based safety.

Why you need HOP

HOP offers numerous benefits. It enhances safety and operational effectiveness by acknowledging the presence of human error and organisational drift. It shifts our focus from blaming individuals to understanding systemic issues, promoting a more positive, collaborative and productive work culture.

Through HOP, your organisation can learn not only from incidents and bad outcomes, but more importantly, from every day, normal work to prevent future bad outcomes and operational upsets, fostering continuous improvement. It also encourages a better understanding of the context driving behaviours, leading to more effective decision-making.

Overall, HOP creates safer, more resilient, high-performing leaders, teams and organisations.?It’s having a massively positive effect on industries across the globe, and its adopters are benefitting from this blueprint for performance improvement, but the UK is lagging in discovering and adopting the power of this approach.
