It's second quarter and you're either ahead or behind. For certain, the worst thing you can do is begin to coast.
I have a client that calls me by the nickname "Chuck" even after all these years, because I was the only guy to knockout the technology problems every time. "It must be that roundhouse you teach all of your people."
Early on, I'd learn a new technology, document the setup and management, walk-through the install and customization with the team, and then make them do it. At first the results were incredible and we did amazing things. Soon I demonstrated the process to apply to all problems and opportunities, pointing out no one else did this approach in the world.
Despite being wildly successful implementing advanced projects and earning more than their peers in the industry, a disturbing thing happened. "There are lots of other prominent companies, this part needed a little tweak, and you need to show me how this works if you want me to do this stuff."
Performance suffered. Bonuses plummeted. Attitudes worsened. It was my fault because I'd made it too easy for them. The irony was they didn't recognize they'd lost the ability to learn and that the "usual" industry approach rarely worked. Today I constantly demonstrate the Delta Method and the latest generation of players learn and implement results better than any in the world using a proven different approach.
Daily mission:?Look at the positive results for the quarter and identify one thing you can start doing to improve on your success.
