Make Good, Natural Conversations

Here’s the thing about good actors.?

They don’t look like they’re acting.?

Rather, they just look like they are that person they’re portraying.?

And that’s what pulls us into their performance.?

That’s what makes us buy into the stories we see on TV and in film.

Because if actors can’t convince us that they’re not just playing a part…

None of their shows would ever be believable.

We’d all just be sitting there, thinking…

Well, that’s not Doctor Strange…

That’s Benedict Cumberbatch doing some weird hand gestures!

Guess what?

Whenever we’re speaking to an audience…

They’re thinking of the same thing!

Yes, they might appear engrossed with what you’re saying.

But if you look like you’re acting instead of having a real conversation with them, they’d be thinking:

Well, this guy is just acting like this because he’s trying to sell me something.

And when your audience starts thinking this way…

You know you’ve lost the pitch.

So, even though your entire speech or presentation might be scripted…

Make sure it doesn’t appear entirely so.

Be in a real, natural conversation with your audience.?

Make each one of them feel like you’re having a personal conversation with them…

Instead of acting out a performance for the entire room.?

I do the same when I rehearse my presentations.?

To be precise, I collect the information I need to deliver…

Then make myself think as if I’m just talking to one person.?

That’s when the speech starts to become more natural.?

More conversational.

Remember, it’s a pretty powerful presentation when a presenter can get up and just go…

“Hey, how are you doing? Great to be here. Remember when this happened?”

And they sound like they’re just having a conversation with you.
