Not everyone learns the same way. One of the great promises of the Maker movement has been that it becomes more feasible to create models and hands-on projects for students who like to learn that way.
Geometry is a very practical subject, with its roots in ancient architecture and navigation. But it's often taught very abstractly. We hope our new book, Make:Geometry, will bring people back to those roots. Whether you're teaching your favorite student at home, or you're a teacher looking for some new ways to reach your classroom, we hope you'll find it useful! Here's a little video we made about some of the projects in the book.
If you don't have a 3D printer, we give alternatives for many of the projects. We also give a sense of the power of basic geometry by explaining how to find your latitude and longitude with just a few observations of the sun and a clock, or how to create Gothic window designs with just a little knowledge of constructions.
We'll be doing a getting-started class for teachers through Make on Saturday, August 14. Registration is at this link. Grab the book and join us to find out how you can make geometry!
