UPDATE. THE CHARITY ALL STAR GAME IS THIS WEEKEND: SEPTEMBER 15, 2019 AT DR PEPPER BALLPARK BEGINNING AT 8:30AM!
My brother Randy was (maybe still is) my hero. We played baseball nearly every day when we were little. Despite being told he could never play competitive baseball due to a condition called Proximal Femoral Focal Deficiency (PFFD) he ignored the doctors and joined the Haddonfield (NJ) Little League. He was ten and I was eight. Even though he wore a prosthesis from the end of a deformed limb under his baseball pants and ran with a pronounced limp, he was likely one of our best players.
We were four years from moving to Texas and prior to his treatment at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children (TSRHC), but little did we know that, not long after this picture was taken, Randy would be admitted to the hospital. After a series of debilitating surgeries which may have set him up for a better life, he'd NEVER PLAY AN INNING!!! The doctors awful baseball predictions were correct.
I GOT TO PLAY BASEBALL! Many kids like Randy do not! I know that even though Randy didn't play, he would never give back those early days when he could play the great game. Its a dream (or nightmare) most of us cannot even imagine. Randy, and my family, owes so much to the Shriner's Hospital and the TSRHC who NEVER TAKE A DIME IF A KID CANNOT AFFORD TREATMENT! As such we give everything we can so some kid MIGHT have the shot to play my brother never had, or the funds might make a difference in a kids 's life.

First let me say, if you already give or continue to give to your favorite kids health charity you are a hero too! If you don't yet, please adopt the TSRHC! One way to do so is through the North Texas Amateur Baseball Foundation Charity All Star Game (now on September 15, 2019) at Dr Pepper Ballpark, home of the AA Texas Rangers affiliate, the Frisco RoughRiders.
To donate click the above link or go to https://community.tsrhc.org/NTABL_Donation or contact the hospital directly.
Finally, pass this note on to your work, family and friends. Come see the games on September 15th beginning at 830AM. Stop by and say Hi to Randy or visit the hospital soon and see the great work they are doing.
GIVE UNTIL IT HURTS!
