You make about 35,000 decisions a day. How many of those do you waste on emails?
Every email in your inbox and every notification requires you to make?at least?five decisions, whether or not you read it:
1. Is it important?
2. Is the sender important?
3. Is it urgent?
4. Is it relevant to me?
5. Will I delete, archive or keep it?
Now look at your email inbox, count the number of newsletters you are subscribed to, cc-lists you are on, or otherwise irrelevant emails.?
How much more could you achieve if you used these decisions for something that matters?
How would the quality of your key decisions change if you gave them more of your energy?
Make the decision here and now to unsubscribe from these newsletters, blacklist or block senders, ask people to take you off of their cc-list, etc.
Disable all notifications.
Yes, the war in Ukraine is a tragedy, but unless you have family members or friends living there right now, or you have business interests associated with the conflict, you do not need real-time updates.
Trust me to that.
Nothing will change for you today unless Russia sends nukes to the US. In which case you will hear about it anyway.
The same goes for Elon Musk, Trump, COVID-19, Kim Jong Un, Hunter Biden's laptop, Sharon Osbourne’s facelift, Putin's girlfriend, Shanghai’s lockdown, the French election, ancient temples in Greece, and so on.
None of these news will help you move your life, business, health, relationships, spirituality, wealth, or emotional wellness to the next level.
We only have three things in life that matter:
Our job in life is to use our talents, in the time that is given to us, to grow our treasures.
Stop making decisions that don't matter.?
My most successful clients keep their focus by first deciding which two of the five business motivators are important to them right now:
Then they eliminate any email, notification, opportunity, communication, or distraction that does not pertain to the top two.
They know that an overflowing email inbox, never-ending Slack notifications, and annoying alarms are the result of a lack of focus.
What will it take for you to relentlessly banish the digital clutter and make better decisions?
Always in your corner,
Andrew
