The Majority of Studies are incorrect

Once again…those who cite studies MUST understand the context.

Nearly every study conducted on concrete has been inherently incorrect.

There is a tradition where concrete strength is based on a 28 day cure period….and most studies do not continue past the 28 days.

According to the 28 day study, the warmer the concrete during this cure period, the stronger the concrete.

This assumption is dutifully followed in a near religious manner. Unfortunately, this “greater strength” is based on truncated data that has been historically proven to be incorrect.

The warmer the concrete providing higher compressive strength numbers at 28 days has shown the higher the temperature and ensuing 28 day compressive value, the less durable the concrete is in the long term.

THIS is why I do not favor increasing the infrastructure budget UNTIL a correction is made. We are throwing good money after bad.

Modern concrete, based on current standards is much less durable than earlier iterations of concrete.

There is no excuse for this and as this video points out, most studies are incorrect. This is particularly true in many areas of construction where false precepts are dutifully followed.

Only recently have enough people asked questions where the standard answers given are finally being exposed as a culture of misinformation.

A European report came out as multiple studies have confirmed a hypothesis I forwarded over 30 years ago…apparently someone was listening as this recent information is based on 20 years of research. I do not agree with several areas of the research since there are “assumed” dynamics placed along side qualified dynamics.

The salts in the concrete surface were shown to absorb moisture from the ambient conditions.

As this area is explored, I will guarantee this condition is MUCH more common than anyone could have guessed…the evidence is global.

Enacting change in most disciplines is like a tugboat trying to make a u-turn in a swimming pool.

If seen this change in the feild and am doing my best to counteract it, but it sometimes feels like yelling into a well.
