The Major Strikes Back

The Major Strikes Back

Good evening and welcome to another issue of the LinkedIn Golf Channel Newsletter.

In this opportunity I would like to share three important Golf events:

The first is about my fellow Aussie Jason Day who was able to win a tournament at the AT&T Byron Nelson in Dallas TX, after months and months without satisfactory results, battling with injuries and low concentration to a point that in his own words he was only inches away from quitting Golf for good.

Jason was able to defeat the number 2 of the world Scottie Scheffler in his own turf. Quite remarkable.

It is good to see him not only finding the winning path again but also returning to the Top 20 in the world ranking after finishing in a disappointing 176 last year.

The second is again about Data Analytics and how we can incorporate projections and modeling to predict expected results.

I will be incorporating and sharing what we are doing on a weekly basis at the LinkedIn Golf Channel regarding the Golf application of this fascinating quantitative discipline.

As you know tomorrow is the first day of the second Major of the year, the PGA Championships at Oak Hill and again all the best players of the world will be hitting the first hole on Thursday with hunger of victory.

As indicated by the organizers, all LIV players eligible to play this year will be free to do so if they wish and all of them have committed to the event.

Taking into consideration the course, its suitability to each player strength and their most recent performance, the results of the LGC model shows the following result in order of probability (from highest to lowest):

  1. Jon Rahm winning his second consecutive Major of the year after winning the Masters. Although historically the PGA Championships has been very slippery to players situated in the Top 10 of the ranking.
  2. Scottie Scheffler with his first Major of 2023 after finning in the Top 5 of the Byron nelson las week,?
  3. Brooks Koepka winning his third PGA Championship after showing great form at LIV and at the Masters,?
  4. Xander Schauffele
  5. Rory McIlroy putting an end of playing several seasons in a row without a Major,?
  6. Justin Thomas clinching a Back to Back?

Putting the hard data aside and focusing solely on empirical views, I can see a strong battle between Rahm and Scheffler. Hope I am right for the sake of most of us.

And Last but not least…

My friend Aaron Armstrong and fellow Golfer from the SF bay Area is organizing the?4th Annual 9/11 Patriot Day Golf Fundraiser For Tuesday’s Children?to?#NEVERFOREGET.
