MAIZE VALUE ADDITION
I've decided to write an article on maize and spesific value addition to maize products and upcoming maize products worldwide.
Maize, as well known as corn, being not only leading produced crop worldwide by over 1 billion tons annually also recently gain a lot of value and competition against wheat and wheat products overall by many reasons.
I have noticed that my childhood snacks has been transformed into maize origin products than wheat on some recent years. Also there are many projects coming up around for further value addition to maize.
The biggest maize stable food consumer continent is Africa also maize is very well sourced, produced and consumed by many different forms in many other continents and spreading very fast in last few years.
Thanks to some new technologies allows us to process the maize in much productive way to add value. Normally the way it was used massively as animal feed yet people recently realise the possiblities of the value addition to the maize.
Either sourcing white maize, or yellow maize many different types of snack or flaking grits can be extracted and can be transformed into cereals, breakfast meals, many different types of stable foods, cakes, bread, chips, crackers, tortillas and many more which all are coming very fast and being famous in massive youngsters whom has mobile access to any food trend worldwide.
As a part of a technology provider company, this trend was inevitable and we have pulled so hard to develop further systems on maize value addition technologies. Each inquiry tought us new lessons and gained many experience in short time.
Being a part of this trend and explaining the investors convincing on this spesific sector is quite exciting in many ways.
Technically, in general and most varieties, maize seeds is gluten free but as well contains much fat on germ tips of the seeds where it holds the cops. Also there s thin bran on top surface covering the seed softly.
Ancient techniques to transpform the maize into stable food is simple mechanical crushing techniques as below;

And nowadays we can transform the maize info fine flour, grits, ugali, fuba, flaking or snackgrits, animal feed byproducts in any capacity and extraction rates required in highest standards thanks to the new technologies.
Lowering the fat content of the maize by a proper degermination allows us to add more value to the outcome and continue value addition processes.
Do not underestimate when i rougly mention value addition, posisbilities are really huge and i strongly believe that, what shapes the industry is NOT what factories can produce, its the young generations demand which most of the time far different than its parents and its coming up very fast now.
