Maintenance Guide For Lithium-ion Batteries - Aqueouss Batteries

A Lithium-ion or Li-ion Battery (LIB) is a collection of one or more electrochemical cells based on the conversion or intercalation of Lithium chemistries which are packaged in a wide range of application-specific formats.? Lithium-ion batteries can be both primary nonchargeable or secondary rechargeable.

Lithium-ion batteries are used very much in our day-to-day life in different forms in different devices but when you or anyone using a lithium-ion battery, there are some points that need to be taken care of, some of these points are given as follows:

1. Observe & Note

When you purchase a new lithium-ion battery, the first thing you need to do that is to observe the time it takes to fully charge and the time in which it discharges, this observation helps you to keep the track of the time you need to charge it in future and you don’t end up overcharging it. Moreover, the noted time by you becomes the basis of comparison of new battery to the old battery or other batteries, which is the basis of ascertaining how efficient your new battery is.?

2. Charging a Battery

When charging a battery, always follow the charging instructions provided with your product. You should always follow your product’s user manual and/or online help for detailed information about charging its battery.

It is advisable to not fully charge the battery at all times and overcharge it once in two to three weeks so that all cells get charged equally.

3. Storage of a Battery

When storing a battery, charge it or discharge it to approximately 50% of capacity before storage. Even when storing, charge the battery to approximately 50% of its capacity at least once every six months.

Always store the battery, removing it separately from the product.

Maintain the temperature between? 5 °C to 20 °C? when storing the battery.

4. Precautions at the Time of Handling a Battery

When you transport a battery or handle it during its induction or when you store it at times when you are not using it, you must make sure that you never disassemble, crush, or puncture a battery.

Don’t short the external contacts on a battery.

Don’t dispose of a battery in fire or water.

Don't expose the battery to temperatures above 60 °C.

Always keep the battery away from children.

Don’t expose the battery to excessive shock or vibration.

Never use a damaged battery.

Apart from all these points, keep some other things in mind that You must not leave batteries unused for long periods of time, either in the product or in storage.?

Make sure that when a battery has been unused for 6 months or more, you should check the charge status and charge or dispose of the battery, whatever looks appropriate.

Keep in mind that the one charge cycle is a period of use from fully charged, to fully discharged, and fully recharged again.?

And, the typical estimated life of a Lithium-Ion battery is about two to three years or 300 to 500 charge cycles, whichever comes first, so you make sure to replace it within the time.

Summary

So, we can conclude that lithium-ion batteries are far more superior than any other forms of? battery, but require some maintenance in order to make them work properly in order to increase life of the battery and experience better efficiency one must follow the above mentioned points.
